What's your favorite dessert?

View 503 Answers

Cheesecake. It has to be cheesecake. Oh, sure, my blood type is ice cream but cheesecake is my great dessert weakness. Cheesecake and ice cream. Yes, it has to be one of those two. Cheesecake or ice cream. Sometimes cheesecake and ice cream. Also, cheesecake ice cream.

Writer's Block: My Biggest Environmental Concern [21 Apr 2009|10:57am]

What is your biggest ecological or environmental concern? What are you doing to make a difference?

My biggest environmental concern is that we're making rash, drastic decisions with far-reaching consequences without really knowing what the hell we're talking about when it comes to the environment. The ratio of what we know and understand versus what we've gotten wrong and what we haven't thought of makes my head spin. The certainty with which we act in an effort to solve problems we don't understand is maddening.

I want to see us spend more money researching, experimenting, and learning about our environment so that if there are problems, we can try to address them in a way that will solve the actual problem without creating massive new ones. I want to see us act armed with knowledge, not reacting and cowering with fear.

What do you want done with your body after you die?

I don't care. I'm indifferent. I want my loved ones to do what is easiest for them. Everything that happens after that final heartbeat becomes someone else's problem. The manner in which I'm disposed of matters very little to me.

2009, Welcome To It [13 Jan 2009|02:00pm]
[ music | Brendan Benson - "Alternative To Love" ]

Wow... I can't believe I wrote NOTHING for Christmas or New Year's.

Christmas was okay. We made our traditional trek to S. Carolina for New Year's, and that is going to be the last such trip as our friend Carrie got a job back here in Huntsvegas. She's supposed to start in early February. We'll kind of miss the trips but we're really happy to have Carrie coming back this way.

In other news... I don't have any. I hope you're all well.

Moron [17 Sep 2008|10:02am]
[ mood | frustrated ]
[ music | Matthew Sweet - Girlfriend ]

You know, I'm semi-tech savvy and pretty decent finding my way around hooking things up and getting it all up and running. I'm not an ace, but I've done this shit before and the shit has worked is what I'm saying.

So last night I go get a new HD Cable box from our company -- we're Comcast -- because we've decided to add DVR to our setup.

I get home and plug everything back where it went on the old box (I think) and I can watch TV, but I don't quite have full functioning DVR. Either I'm a moron (a distinct possibility) or it's on their end (also a possibility).

BAHHH!!!

I've spent the morning downloading manuals and the like from Comcast's web site and so far I can't see where I did anything other than what I was supposed to do, but I'm not sure. It's going to be an evening of tech support tonight. Ask me how much fun that's going to be.

I've Had... [15 Sep 2008|01:11pm]
[ mood | sick ]

a weeklong headache. No, that's not a metaphor.

My cat is going back to the vet today. That won't help my headache. This really has to stop.

For one weekend, football loved me back. Go Raiders. Roll Tide.

R.I.P., Rick Wright.

Taking What I'm Given... [13 Sep 2008|12:07pm]
[ mood | busy ]

I'm at work today for a couple hours. The overtime of the past 8-9 months is slowly tapering. I'm picking up an extra few bucks where I can. I'd hoped to be saving for a new laptop computer but an $800 vet bill has mostly taken the wind out of those sails. A fella can still dream, though...

Long Week [12 Sep 2008|05:13pm]

I have not been able to do anything about this headache all week. Tension, stress, and who knows what else. Extra-strength Excedrin hasn't been able to touch it and neither has Advil.

I'm glad this week is over.

skipped lunch.

I could still go to lunch but it seems a bit dopey to leave for an hour now and have to come back for 2.5 hours. I guess I'm just going to stick it out, but the day is really beginning to drag.

Man, that was a great landing. My heart stops every time a shuttle launches and for the entirety of the landing process. It's beating again today. 5 million miles and the successful installation of the European Lab module. How cool is that?

I Have Come Here Seeking Knowledge... [05 Feb 2008|12:45pm]
[ mood | contemplative ]

Wow... two songs I can go with. The Police's "Wrapped Around Your Finger" and Radiohead's "Electioneering."

It's Super Tuesday and I am (mostly) undecided about who to vote for. The only thing I'm certain of is that I don't want Sen. Clinton to be our president. I'm pretty sure I don't want any of the other choices on either side of the aisle, but I'm beyond certain I don't want her. I'm not going to enumerate the reasons but I hope I don't have to come back here and explain that it has nothing to do with her gender.

Anyway, that leaves me four candidates on the Republican side and one on the Democrat side. My options as I see them:

  1. Stay home:  I'm not feeling any of them.  I could just wait until November.
  2. Vote for Sen. Obama:  I don't think any of the Republicans are going to win in November so if I don't want Sen. Clinton elected, this would be the "best" strategy.  The problem with this is I'm not really supportive of his platform or ideas.  I don't want him to be president, either.
  3. Vote for Sen. McCain:  I was actually a big fan of McCain in 2000.  I don't recognize that person anymore, 8 years later.
  4. Vote for Gov. Romney:  Some people only believe there is one side to an issue.  Some people think there are two sides to an issue.  Gov. Romney seems to have been an overachiever.  He's not only found multiple sides of multiple issues, he's taken positions based on all of them.  Major sincerity and trust issues here.
  5. Vote for Gov. Huckabee:  He seems the most affable of the bunch but I'm not much of a populist.
  6. Vote for Rep. Paul:  I like his view of a far more limited government but can't subscribe to his foreign policy views.  Electability does, on some level, matter to me.  This guy isn't going to win.  That's not the only issue but it is an issue.
  7. Turn in a blank ballot:  Show up and exercise my right to vote and communicate my apathy by voting for none of them.
Option 1 is pretty well out for me.  I tend to be a patriotic sort and voting seems too special a privilege to ignore.  That leaves six choices.  They're not ranked in any particular order, just the order I listed them.  I'm open to suggestions.

Tell Me How This Adds Up [05 Feb 2008|08:44am]
I have arrived at work an hour and half earlier than I've been getting here lately and yet I'm not nearly as vengeful as I was yesterday. I can't really explain it. It doesn't normally work this way for me. To think, I've done this without a drop of caffeine this morning. I guess I did have some last night, though...

I've not really been off caffeine for caffeine's sake. I guess it's time to let the cat out of the bag somewhat. I've been on something of a diet recently. Well, I was on one in November and December. I somewhat took January off and am struggling to get back on the program now. The good news is that January's "vacation" didn't cost me what I'd lost in Nov-Dec. I actually dropped two pounds for the month. Now I'm going to try to get back to the better work I was doing at the end of '07.

I started doing it just because. Actually, that's not entirely true. A guy roughly my age and starting weight finally went apeshit and did something about being a fatass and I got sort of inspired by it. I didn't really tell anyone I was doing this until I'd gotten part of the way in because everyone has heard it all before because nearly every fat American has said it before.

Now I have additional motivation... there's a better than average chance I'll be attending the BlogWorld Expo in September (right after my birthday). It means meeting some of my Blogcritics colleagues for the first time. It also means meeting some potential contacts for Fanboy. I want to look better for that event. I want to look more professional. I want to feel more professional. Fat, dumpy, White bloggers are a dime a fucking dozen. I'd like to not be that guy. My goal is ambitious but doing what I did for those two months and knowing what PW did assures me it is possible.

So... are any of you Vegas people?

You're on my list, so I want to know you better! I did change a few of the questions to be more applicable to my friends, and also I think "what's the worst thing that has ever happened to you" is a horrible question for a public internet post.
